As a student at the Ontario College of Art in 1976, Mark Summers was introduced to scratchboard by the revered political cartoonist Duncan Macpherson. Soon after graduation, he began circulating his portfolio of portraits. His big break came with a portrait of Douglas McArthur from the New York Times Book Review, and he hasn’t stopped working since. Mark’s engravings in scratchboard have garnered numerous awards, exhibits, and a continually expanding client list that still includes regular features in the Book Review.

get inspired14 reaching polearms
I love fantasy characters with polearms, even though I rarely create one myself when playing such a game. Still, I personally think polearms are sweet weapons. For a definition, I will let Wikipedia do the explaining:
A pole weapon or polearm is a close combat weapon in which the main fighting part of the weapon is placed on the end of a long shaft, typically of wood, thereby extending the user’s effective range. Spears, glaives, poleaxes, halberds, and bardiches are all varieties of polearm. The idea of attaching a weapon onto a long shaft is an old one, as the first spears date back to the Stone Age. The purpose of using pole weapons is either to extend reach or to increase angular momentum-—and thus striking power-—when the weapon is swung.
How about pictures now? Enjoy the art!

Tuomas Korpi is an extremely talented and skilled artist from Finland. Just observing the little details in his artwork is inspiring to me. Although I have only included examples of his illustrations below, Tuomas does not stop there with his art. He also has matte paintings, sketches, and other digital works on his website, which I highly recommend viewing.
Awesome art incoming!
